Guide to Making an Appointment at Alive Dermatology | I Visited 3 Clinics in Seoul for Sensitive Skin – Eventually I Chose This One and Stayed There

Why is it harder for people with sensitive skin to find a Dermatology specialist than a boyfriend?

To be honest, when it comes to finding a Dermatology clinic for sensitive skin in Seoul, I’ve made way more mistakes than I’ve eaten of bibimbap.

Last year, I visited 3 clinics—At the first one, they immediately gave me a chemical peel, leaving my face red like Guan Yu’s. The second clinic pushed a “calming treatment package,” but after just 3 days, my skin reverted to its original state. The third clinic didn’t cause any problems, but the consultation lasted only 3 minutes; I wondered if the doctor even remembered what I looked like.

Later, I saw someone on Dcard mention Alive, saying that the doctor there could spend up to 2 hours during a face consultation. I thought to myself, “2 hours? Is that really for a consultation or just chatting?” Only after going there did I realize they actually spent time carefully examining your skin, rather than just going through the motions.

In this article, I’m sharing in detail my entire booking experience at Alive, including the consultation process, how I chose the procedures, and key tips to avoid common pitfalls. After reading it, you’ll understand why I’ve stuck with this clinic ever since.

The atmosphere in the reception area of Alive Dermatology

What’s the background of Alive Dermatology? Find out first before deciding whether to go there or not.

SWOMAN is located at 291 Banpo-daero, Seocho-gu, Seoul. It’s just a 3-minute walk from Exit 5 of Sinbanpo Station on Subway Line 9. The location is easy to find — it’s on the 4th floor of the One Bailey Square building.

But convenient location isn’t the key factor. What really matters is that this clinic boasts something extremely rare—a certification for dermatology specialists. Across South Korea, only about 2% of dermatologists can obtain this accreditation; it’s not something just anyone can get.

Led by Chief Physician Xu Shengluo, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Korea University and an MD degree from CHA University, he once served as the head of the Dermatology department at Yangju Army Hospital in South Korea, bringing over 15 years of clinical experience. He isn’t one of those “cosmetic medicine consultants” who complete just a few months of training before starting work — he is a genuine board-certified physician.

Alive has a clear focus: it specializes in repairing the skin barrier and treating sensitive skin, while also offering anti-aging and firming treatments. It’s not one of those “department store-style” clinics that offer a wide range of services without delving deeply into any particular area.

The internal treatment environment at Alive Dermatology

Making an appointment is the first hurdle: How can I get a slot with the chief physician?

Let’s get to the bottom line first: You need to schedule an in-person consultation with the clinic director at least one month in advance, and it might take even longer during peak seasons. I’m not trying to scare you — this is just how it is.

Alive operates on a strict appointment-only basis and does not accept walk-in patients for last-minute appointments. If you show up without an appointment, you can at most see a Dental hygienist, while whether the director is available that day depends entirely on luck.

Three ways to schedule appointments — I recommend BeautsGO.

Method 1: The BeautsGO platform (recommended)

Download the BeautsGO APP, or search for the WeChat mini-program “Bihui Mei” and look for “Alive”. It has a Chinese interface, so you don’t have to communicate in Korean with customer service. The booking process is just three steps: select the service → choose the time → submit. There’s also a Chinese-speaking customer service representative who can help you confirm the doctor’s schedule personally, making things much simpler.

Option 2: Book online through the official website

Go to the Chinese version of the Alive official website, click on “Schedule an Appointment,” select the department and fill in the details. Write “Foreigner” in the remarks section. You should receive confirmation within 2–4 hours. However, the website interface is mainly in Korean, and the Chinese translation isn’t always accurate.

Method 3: Direct contact via WeChat

Add WeChat at xycheng2204 – a Chinese-speaking customer service representative will help you make an appointment. However, their response time can be inconsistent; during peak hours, you might have to wait for half a day.

3 Tips to Secure a Consultation with the Director

1. Slots are released at midnight on the 1st of each month, and there are people who set alarms just to be the first to grab them. If you want a slot for the following month, you need to start keeping an eye on it by the end of the current month.

2. It’s relatively easier to book appointments from Tuesday to Thursday mornings. Fridays afternoons and Saturdays are usually fully booked, as locals also rush to book them.

3. Add to the waiting list. If someone cancels at the last minute, a replacement is automatically assigned. I’ve had success being added to the list once—someone ahead of me probably canceled because their visa wasn’t approved.

What exactly happens during the 2-hour in-person consultation? A full record of the six-dimensional barrier assessment

It was my first time at Alive, and I scheduled a consultation with the director at 2 p.m. When I arrived, I registered at the front desk first, after which a nurse took me for a skin assessment—not just a casual check-up, but a six-dimensional barrier function evaluation that covers around 6 different indicators.

① Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) — Measures how well your skin can retain moisture.
② Skin
pH level — Healthy skin should have a slightly acidic pH of 4.5–5.5.
③ Sebum content — Dete
rmines whether the lipid barrier is intact.
④ Stratum
corneum hydration — The level of hydration affects your skin’s conditi
on.
⑤ Erythema index — Quantifies just how “red” your skin is.
⑥ Sensitivity threshold — How much irritation your skin can tolerate.

The entire testing process takes about 20 minutes, after which you can take the report to see the director.

Dr. Xu truly studied the report in detail when reviewing it—he didn’t just skim through it briefly before starting to recommend treatments. He asked me about my daily skincare routine, the products I use, my eating habits, sleep patterns, stress levels, and more. The in-person consultation lasted almost 2 hours—something I’ve never experienced at any other clinic before.

In the end, the plan he suggested for me was to start with 4 sessions of basic barrier repair treatment, and then add anti-aging treatments depending on the situation. The fact that he didn’t push the most expensive package right from the start really put my mind at ease.

Projects I’ve done at Alive: Honest results, no exaggeration or hiding the truth

1. Basic Management for Barrier Repair — The Savior for Sensitive Skin

The procedure takes about 60 minutes: gentle cleansing → stratum corneum treatment → iontophoresis with barrier-repairing serum → soothing effect from LED red and yellow lights → B5 and centella asiatica repair mask → sealing to lock in moisture. The whole process is very mild, causing no stinging sensation, allowing you to continue with your regular skincare routine right away after the treatment.

After doing it four times, the biggest change was that my skin didn’t feel tight and painful right after washing my face. The tendency to flush easily also improved significantly. It’s not like I’ve “got a new face,” but my skin condition has definitely become much more stable.

Price reference: Around 120,000–200,000 KRW per session (approximately 600–1,000 RMB), while an 8-session package costs around 800,000–1,200,000 KRW, which is much more cost-effective than paying per session.

2. Thermage FLX 600 shots + Rejuran PN 2 centum core – The ultimate anti-aging combo

I added this treatment only after my skin’s barrier function had been fully restored and stabilized. The Thermage procedure was carried out using a “reticular approach,” as the clinic director explained that people of East Asian descent tend to have high cheekbones that are prone to sinking, and this technique helps prevent the Apple Zone from collapsing. Throughout the treatment, Diptyque fragrances were used, along with bite guards, making the overall experience far better than anything I’ve had at any clinic back in my home country.

You can see immediate lifting effects right after the treatment, with a noticeable sense of firming in the Apple Zone. Rejuran PN is used as a repair injection to help the skin recover. The entire package costs 2.8 million won (about 15,000 RMB), and its effects last for 1–2 years.

3. The 5-Step Treatment for Sunken Pores — A Game-Changer for Acne-Prone Skin

If you’re struggling with enlarged Pores along with acne scars and marks, Alive offers a “Multi-Function Package for Pore and Scar Treatment” that’s well worth considering. This package combines Pico, RF, excimer laser, Potenza, BBL, Juvelook 2cc, and TCA, allowing 3–4 different treatments to be carried out simultaneously in just one session.

My friend got this treatment done. She said the redness and swelling went away after 3 days with scabs forming, and the recovery time was shorter than expected. Claiming a 70% improvement in Pores might be a bit exaggerated, but there are definitely visible changes.

Price: 660,000 KRW (approximately 3,500 RMB), offering excellent value for money among similar combined treatment packages.

ANEW May New Customer Price List: What’s Worth Doing and What Can Be Skipped

The exclusive offers for new customers in May at Alive – I’ve ranked them based on whether they’re worth it or not:

✅ Worth it

• Thermage FLX 300 sessions → 1.21 million KRW (about 6,100 RMB), at least 30% cheaper than domestically
• ONDA micro
wave lifting 60KJ → 520,000 KRW (about 2,600 RMB), the ultimate solution for Double Chin
• Rejuran Black/R
ed kits → 300,000 KRW (about 1,500 RMB), essential for skin repair
• Combined Pores Reduc
tion treatment → 660,000 KRW (about 3,500 RMB), a cost-effective option using multiple devices together

⚠️ It depends on the situation

• US version of Ultherapy 2.0 – 300 sessions for 1.09 million KRW; there’s no need to rush into getting it if you still have yout
hful skin.
• Filler for under-eye lines, neck wrinkles, and crow’s feet – 400,000 KRW per CC, depending on your filling needs.

❌ It’s not highly recommended for new clients to start right away.

• 600 sessions of ultrasound + 600 sessions of Thermage → 4.95 million KRW (about 25,000 RMB). The cost is too high, and there’s no need to go this extreme for a first treatment.

5 Things to Keep in Mind on the Day of Your In-Person Consultation

1️⃣ Go without makeup. Wearing makeup can affect the skin analysis results. Not only does removing it on site waste time, but residual makeup can also impact TEWL readings.

2️⃣ Bring photos of all the skincare products you’re currently using. The clinic director will use them to determine which ones might irritate your skin—this is 100 times more reliable than guessing on your own.

3️⃣ Prepare a list of questions you want to ask. A 2-hour in-person consultation might seem long, but time flies by before you know it—having your questions ready in advance ensures nothing is overlooked.

4️⃣ Set aside enough time. In-person consultations can run over, so don’t schedule too many tight appointments back to back.

5️⃣ Request a written breakdown of costs. Avoid vague quotes—every item must be clearly listed to prevent hidden fees from showing up at checkout.

High-end treatment equipment available at Alive Dermatology

If you have sensitive skin like me, I’ll give you a straightforward solution so you don’t have to worry about it yourself.

First visit (initial consultation): 6D barrier assessment + in-person consultation with the director → basic barrier repair treatment (1-2 sessions initially to observe the response)

After stabilization (after 4–6 treatments): Add anti-aging treatments as needed. If your budget is limited, opt for the Thermage 300 shots combined with Rejuran treatment—to achieve both anti-aging and rejuvenation effects in one go.

If you’re dealing with acne scars and enlarged Pores, starting a combined treatment for pore depression right after stabilizing your skin barrier yields much better results than using Pico therapy alone.

What not to do: Avoid using alpha-hydroxy acids or high-energy lasers on sensitive skin right away. Don’t believe whatever clinic promises—fix your skin barrier first.

What You Need to Know Before Going to Alive (Essential Guide to Avoiding Pitfalls)

• The difficulty in booking an appointment with the director isn’t just a gimmick: only 8–10 appointments are available per day—really that few. If you can’t get a slot with the director, it’s perfectly fine to have the team doctors handle your routine care, but for initial consultations, it’s highly recommended to wait for the director.

• In-person consultations are free, but appointments are highly competitive: the consultation fee is 20,000 KRW (about 100 RMB), though new clients can get it waived by booking through BeautsGO.

• Closed on Sundays: Avoid scheduling appointments on Sundays. Hours of operation are from Monday to Friday until 20:30, and until 19:30 at other times. Lunch break is from 13:00 to 14:00.

• Be wary of the “today’s special offer” tactic: If someone keeps pushing you during your consultation, saying there must be a discount today, take a moment to calm down and think it through before making a decision. Reputable clinics won’t use time pressure to force you into making a purchase.

• Scan for authenticity: You can scan the Thermage probe and Filler packaging on the spot to verify their authenticity—don’t hesitate to ask.

• No need for intermediaries: You can book directly through BeautsGO. Intermediaries charge an extra 10-20% fee, and the more hands the information passes through, the higher the chance of errors.

FAQ: What Else You Want to Know About Alive Dermatology

Q: Is there a Chinese translation for Alive?
A: Yes. Wh

en making an appointment, please note “foreigner,” and the clinic will assign staff with translation experience to assist you. If you book through BeautsGO, you’ll have Chinese-speaking customer service throughout the process, so you don’t need to worry about language barriers.

Q: How much time should I schedule for my first visit?
A: The initial c

onsultation includes a six-dimensional assessment and a face-to-face meeting with the doctor, so plan for at least 2.5–3 hours. If you also need treatment, it might take half a day. It’s recommended to avoid scheduling any other plans for that day.

Q: How long does it take to see results after Thermage treat
ment?
A:You’ll feel an immediate lifting effect, but the best results emerge gradually over 3–6 months after the procedure, as Collagen regeneration takes time. The effects can last for 1–2 years.

Q: Will sensitive skin become even more sensitive after undergoing Thermage
treatment?
A:This is exactly why it’s important to first repair the skin’s barrier before starting anti-aging treatments with Alive. When the barrier is stabilized and Thermage is applied alongside Rejuran repair injections, it generally won’t exacerbate sensitivity. However, if your skin barrier isn’t fully restored yet, doctors won’t recommend undergoing this treatment.

Q: Can I wear makeup after a treatment at Alive?
A:For basic barrier management tre

atments, you can carry out your regular skincare routine the same night, and you can wear makeup the next day. For laser treatments, it’s recommended to wait at least 24 hours before wearing makeup—always follow your doctor’s instructions.

Q: What if I’m not satisfied with the results?
A: You can commu

nicate with the clinic director via WeChat or email after the procedure. Alive offers post-operative follow-up services. Repair products can also be shipped directly to China, so you don’t have to worry about no one taking care of things once you return.
