However, my visit to Gangnam V Dermatology completely shattered this stereotype.
Let me state the conclusion first: The prices are the same as those in South Korea; the director of the clinic is a Key Doctor certified by Allergan; all fillers are administered personally by the director’s representative; no sales pitches or unnecessary talk. If you have even a slight interest in Dermatology in South Korea but are also worried about being overcharged, this article should be able to help you.

I. Why is it called Gangnam V? It’s not because it’s popular, but for these three reasons.
I’m not the kind of person who would rush into making a decision just because I see a recommendation on Dcard. When it comes to choosing a Dermatology specialist, I always do my homework first—and I make sure to do it thoroughly.
I decided to go to Jiangnan V Dermatology after comparing five different dermatology clinics in the Gangnam area. The reason wasn’t that it was “the cheapest” or “the most famous”, but rather three factors that were particularly important to me:

This is completely different from the chain Dermatology clinics I visited before. III. The process of visiting a medical beauty clinic: Not as scary as one might imagine
I must admit that before I set off, what worried me the most wasn’t whether it would be painful or whether the results would be good, but rather “what if I can’t find my way when I get there” and “what if I don’t speak Korean and they ignore me?”
As a result, the whole process went so smoothly that I felt like I was overly anxious.

Exit Exit 10 of Gangnam Station on the subway, then follow the signs for 5 minutes until you reach Xishan Building. Take the elevator to the 15th floor. There are Chinese signs at the entrance, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost.

Fill in basic information + undergo AI skin analysis
At the front desk, you will be given a questionnaire in both Chinese and Korean to fill out information about your allergy history, the skincare products you are currently using, and any previous treatments you have undergone. Then, an AI device will be used to conduct a detailed skin analysis—quantifying aspects such as Pores, pigmentation, wrinkles, and skin elasticity. The results of this analysis will be compiled into a personalized report for you.

The director conducts individual consultations with patients one by one.
This is the most impressive part for me — Director Liu personally conducts the consultation. By combining the data from the AI reports with his observations of your facial features, he explains exactly what you need, why you need it, and how to achieve it. Don’t worry about not understanding; a Chinese translator will be present throughout the entire process to provide translation assistance.

Confirm the treatment plan → Proceed with the treatment
After the director presents the recommended plan, you can choose whether to proceed or not – there is no pressure at all. Once you make your decision, you can go straight into the treatment room without any further waiting.
The entire process, from entering the venue to going into the treatment room, took approximately 30 minutes. No one tried to sell anything to me, no one showed me any “additional treatment packages,” and no one suggested that I should undergo more procedures.
This is really rare at Gangnam Dermatology.

This is what concerns me the most: will foreigners actually be charged more money?
The answer is: No. The prices in the price list are the same as those in South Korea. However, it is important to note that all listed prices do not include a 10% surcharge, as required by South Korean law – even South Koreans have to pay this additional tax. Therefore, the actual amount due upon settlement = Listed price × 1.1.

V. What was my final step? Why did I choose this combination?
During the in-person consultation, Director Liu, after reviewing my AI-generated skin report, said several things that left a deep impression on me.
“Your skin doesn’t have any major problems, but the fascia layer is a bit loose (he pointed to the elasticity values in the AI report), and the dermis is lacking in moisture. It’s recommended that you first use HIFU to tighten the underlying layers, and then apply hyaluronic acid treatment for hydration—the order must not be reversed.”
Instead of recommending the most expensive option, he suggested otherwise:

To be honest, at this price in Taiwan, you could probably only get one of these services. But in Gangnam, you can have both done at the same time, and the director personally performs the procedures – the cost-performance ratio is obviously excellent.
The treatment process is as follows:
1. Application of anesthetic cream (about 30 minutes) – The nurse will apply it for you; the cream is cool and doesn’t cause any discomfort.
2 sessions of HIFU, 600 treatments in total (about 40 minutes) — during the treatment, the director kept asking me if I felt any discomfort. To be honest, there was a slight tingling and swelling around my jawline (similar to the sensation when your teeth touch ice), but it was completely within an acceptable range. After half of my face had been treated, the nurse showed me in the mirror — the contours on this side had already become more defined than those on the other side.
3. Rejuran hyaluronic acid injection (about 20 minutes) – Immediately after the HIFU treatment, the Rejuran injection is administered. Since the face is already numb, there is almost no sensation at all. The director performed the injection very carefully, evenly distributing the fluid from the Forehead to the chin, needle by needle.
Applying a mask followed by LED light therapy for approximately 15 minutes — immediately after the procedure, applying a mask helps to reduce inflammation, while the LED red light promotes recovery. The nurse advised against falling asleep during this time, but I still dozed off for about 10 minutes.

VI. Postoperative Changes: A True Record from the Day of Surgery to One Month Later
